Bob Worboys, an Englishman and great-great-grandson of a brewer, moved to the Basque country in 2006 to brew craft beer using his Anglo-Saxon know-how. Etxeko Bob’s Beer is one of the oldest traditional craft beers in the Basque country. The brewery needed a new strategic direction that would develop the brand while preserving its authentic “Basque” image. My proposal was built around Basque architecture its forms, textures, and regional character.
Keeping the brand’s deep Basque roots intact while introducing English elegance. Avoiding a generic “craft beer” look. Translating architectural elements (stone, timber, regional shapes) into a cohesive visual identity that works on bottles, tap handles, and digital platforms.
Develop a brand identity that tells the story of two cultures meeting. Use Basque architectural references as the visual backbone. Maintain tradition while signaling innovation. Create a premium yet approachable look that appeals to local drinkers and international craft beer enthusiasts.
Started with research on Basque architectural heritage: whitewashed walls, dark timber, rounded doorways, rustic textures. Explored color palettes that blend English deep greens or warm browns with Basque cream and charcoal. Sketched logo concepts referencing building facades or roof lines. Designed label layouts that balance structure (architecture) with fluidity (beer). Tested the identity across bottle labels, taproom signage, and merchandise to ensure a consistent, memorable, and culturally rich brand presence.
